Working principle of locomotive maintenance: ensuring safe and efficient operation of locomotives

Locomotive maintenance is a key link in ensuring the safety and efficient operation of railway transportation. In the maintenance of electric locomotives, maintenance work has its scientific working principle.

For repairable locomotive parts, there are many repair processes. Machining is a commonly used method, in which part of the material on the surface of the workpiece is removed by a machine tool to make the geometric dimensions of the workpiece meet the requirements. For example, repairing parts with shaft holes such as axles and traction motor commutators. The advantage of this method is that it can extend the service life of complex and high-value parts, but it will increase the number of spare parts and complicate interchangeability.

Welding repair also plays an important role in the maintenance of electric locomotives. Common ones are brazing and fusion welding, which are divided into electric welding and gas welding according to the heating method. Brazing uses solder with a lower melting point than the base metal, and fills the connection gap after heating to form a connection. Soft soldering uses solder with a melting point below 325°C, which can repair some moving components or systems with initial, stable and wear and tear failure stages.

The locomotive maintenance cycle and repair process are determined based on the structural characteristics of the locomotive. The maintenance process is divided into four levels: major maintenance, medium maintenance, minor maintenance and auxiliary maintenance. Different maintenance processes have different focuses. For example, minor maintenance mainly focuses on the inspection and repair of the brake system, etc. In order to protect the parts, matching marks and parts storage should be made during disassembly.

In addition to electric locomotives, other locomotives such as diesel locomotives also need to inspect, repair and maintain the whole machine, power system, brake system, electrical system, etc. Only through these comprehensive and detailed maintenance and maintenance work can the stable operation of the locomotive be ensured.
